Situation of Malaria in East Asia.

Abstract

The malaria situation in eastern Asia, i.e. WHO's South-East Asia and Western Pacific regions, is described. 60% of the total global population at risk of malaria live in these regions; in 2009 there were 2.65 million confirmed malaria cases and 4192 malaria deaths. Patterns of disease over the past few years are shown and challenges are summarized.
