Scoping Study: Africa-Britain-China (ABC) Agricultural Technology Research Collaborations for International Development - Bibliometrics Report

Abstract

This bibliometrics report focuses on the research output and performance of Africa, Britain, and China in Agricultural and Biological Sciences (AgBio) for the time period spanning 2005 to 2014. The report’s analyses are based on two complementary databases of information about research – Scopus and CAB Abstracts. The report first analyses macro research and development context in Africa, Britain, and China, then examines the overall level of research in twelve agricultural challenges that Africa faces, and measures the relative research performance of Africa, Britain, and China on those challenges. The report further explores the AgBio sub-areas in which each country or region specialises, identifying areas of strength and growth. Throughout these analyses, the report takes several different perspectives on existing research connections between Africa, Britain, and China, including trends in co-authored publications and researcher mobility. Furthermore, the report not only examines the extent to which researchers in these countries and regions are connected to one another but also to researchers in the private sector.
