Reviewing the UNGASS declaration of commitment on HIV and AIDS: The need for microbicides.

Abstract

In June 2001, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution committing member countries to mobilising a comprehensive response to the challenge of HIV and AIDS; this document was written prior to a meeting held in June 2006 to assess progress and set the direction for future action. It calls on member states to recognise the importance of microbicides and vaccines against HIV, and gives reasons why new prevention tools, in particular microbicides, are needed. It is also available in French.
