Abstract

This review provides a general overview of the situation with regards to the role of fisheries in the livelihoods of the poor in coastal communities in Kenya, and identifies certain key issues, constraints and opportunities for livelihood improvement. A major constraint was the lack of information on the fishery and the lack of compiled information in the Fisheries Department and as a result a significant amount of primary information was gathered for the review through interviews.
