Abstract

This report is an output from the ‘Resolving the unresolved non-tariff barriers in the East African Community’ project funded by the UK Department for International Development through the East Africa Research Fund.

This report presents 3 elements:

  1. it describes the existing non-tariff barriers (NTBs) by assessing their nature, time to be resolved and other characteristics.

  2. it attempts to measure and quantify the costs of the trade and logistics NTBs in the East African Community (EAC).

  3. it assesses the effects of the removal of these NTBs on trade, production, income, employment and prices.
