Repression or civil war? [Conference paper]

Abstract

This paper presents a unified approach to studying different forms of political violence (repression and civil war) with common roots in poverty, natural resource rents, and weak political institutions. The results indicate a strong correlation between low incomes, weak political institutions and both forms of political violence.
