Putting Miners First: Understanding the Livelihoods Context of Small-Scale and Artisanal Mining in Ghana.

Abstract

Project C39 examined the economic contribution of artisanal mining at the micro-level in terms of levels and distribution of earnings, to enhance understanding of the challenges faced by artisanal mining communities in Ghana and Tanzania, with the objective of devising policy initiatives for improving the security and quality of life of their people.

The present paper reports the findings of the Ghana study.
