Presentation: How a lack of safe toilets threatens to increase violence against women in slums

Abstract

The UNC Water and Health Conference, 29th October to 2nd November 2012, provided a forum for sharing research regarding drinking water supply, sanitation, hygiene and water resources, with a strong public health emphasis. SHARE co-convened several side events, including one on Violence Against Women. During this session, Spera Atuhairwe of WaterAid Uganda gave this presentation on how a lack of safe toilets threatens to increase violence against women in slums. Experiences from Kampala (Uganda), Delhi and Bhopal (India) are presented.
