Abstract

The background to a study exploring the transfer of global policies on infectious diseases to developing countries, comparing directly observed therapy short course (DOTS) for the treatment of tuberculosis and syndromic management for sexually transmitted infections at the primary health care level, is described and a summary of the main findings is presented.
