Abstract

The role of the Defensoría in Peru in (1) strengthening legal protection against racial discrimination through lobbying for legal modifications; and (2) generating public awareness and support through high-profile media campaigns, is assessed. This paper was presented at 'Conflict Prevention and Peaceful Development: Policies to Reduce Inequality and Exclusion', a CRISE policy conference held on July 9-10, 2007 at Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford.
