Abstract
This briefing, which is intended to assist Southern print and broadcast journalists to communicate the findings of academic research in an accessible way sets out the main issues around the topic of taxation and good governance. It covers the problems of taxation in developing countries, and the links between taxation and governance, then looks at research on tax reform. A section entitled 'Investigating tax and governance' explains some tax terms and gives some key questions for journalists to ask, and ideas for tax stories. There is also a list of organisations conducting research on tax and governance, and some useful websites.
