Novel Compounds for the Treatment of Chagas Disease

Abstract

Several series of compounds (including natural products and agrochemicals) with activity against Trypanosoma cruzi were evaluated. A new lead series has been developed based on the herbicide Fenarimol; they are potent, selective, non-cytotoxicity and easy to synthesise. Lead compound BS207 has good oral bioavailability and is active in a mouse model of T. cruzi infection.
