Abstract

This fact sheet (available in English, French and Spanish) describes the potential of antiretroviral vaginal microbicides to deal with the serious problem of HIV and AIDS among women, in the light of recent clinical trial results showing that they can significantly reduce the risk of HIV infection. They target HIV specifically in a number of different ways, and combination microbicides have potential to offer greater protection.
