Abstract

In debates about public engagement in governance and participation in development a renewed concern with rights, power and difference has focused greater attention on the institutions at the interface between publics, providers and policy-makers. This issue of the IDS Bulletin, edited by Cornwell and Schattan, explores these debates; twelve articles bring varied perspectives to bear on specific cases; brief summaries and author details are also provided.
