Abstract

This special session explored new approaches that harness mobile technologies to overcome financial, operational and institutional barriers to rural water security in sub-Saharan Africa and India. The presentations were:

  • Rural water supply management and monitoring innovations from West Africa (Daniel Annerose, Manobi)
  • Smart handpumps and rural water security risk (Dr Rob Hope, University of Oxford)
  • LIFELINK – Reducing financial and operational risks to rural water security (Rasoul Mikkelsen, Grundfos)
  • Mobile-enhanced handpump maintenance innovations in rural India (K.J. Rajeev, WaterAid)
