Abstract

This fact sheet (available in English, French and Spanish) describes briefly why vaginal microbicides are useful for controlling HIV/AIDS, how they work, the first and second generations of microbicides, formulations and delivery, testing for safety and efficacy, ethical standards in clinical trials, support for communities where trials take place, and how access to microbicides will be ensured.
