Management of Indonesian River Fisheries.

Abstract

This sub-project investigated the variability in local management systems used for Indonesian river fisheries, and its dependence on physical/hydrological and social/cultural features. The study was required to provide advice on the formulation of a generalised, nationwide policy for Indonesia's highly diverse inland fisheries. This investigation was undertaken during two separate field trips. The first field trip, between 15 May and 1 June, visited Sumatran river fisheries in the Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) and Musi Banyuasin (Muba) kabupaten of South Sumatra province, and the kabupaten Batanghari, of Jambi province. The second field trip was undertaken during the period 22-30 July to the Danau Sentarum Wildlife Reserve (DSWR), in the kabupaten Kapuas Ulu of Kalimantan's western province.
