Making stakeholders aware of advances in smallholder dairy farming. Validated RNRRS Output.

Abstract

This is one of 280 summaries describing key outputs from the projects run by DFID's 10-year Renewable Natural Resources Research Strategy (RNRRS) programmes.

Summary for Project title: ZC0261: Development of a Dairy Toolbox.

A new 'toolbox' has been developed to make it easier for organizations to provide easy-tounderstand information to anyone involved in smallholder dairy production. Known as the Smallholder Dairy Toolbox (SDTB), its software allows users to access useful information and provide it in formats that are appropriate to a whole range of stakeholders—from farmers and delivery agents to planners and policy makers. The toolbox is intended to overcome the fact that the training and information materials currently available are often inadequate and difficult to access— especially for farmers and extension workers who have very little spare time. It is available on CD or as a download from the project website, and is already being used in some parts of Kenya.

The CD has the following information for this output: Description, Validation, Current Situation, Current Promotion, Impacts On Poverty, Environmental Impact. Attached PDF (11 pp.) taken from the CD.
