Local development in Poland: Case study perspectives.

Abstract

This paper reports the findings from three case studies undertaken to provide an in-depth evaluation of how local actors approach the economic development process. The work goes beyond the usual tangible indicators such as unemployment, education, industry mix and infrastructure to also consider the impact that ‘softer’ factors may have on development. Section 2 outlines the procedure adopted to select the gminas for the case studies. The following three sections then detail the findings for the three local areas. A brief summary and conclusion close the paper.
