Livestock, Liberalization and Democracy: Constraints and Opportunities for Rural Livestock Producers in a Reforming Uganda

Abstract

This policy briefing summarises PPLPI Working Paper No. 29. The political situation of Uganda is outlined, as is the current direction and progress of political reform. Four strategic entry points for interventions that could improve the livelihood of poor producers are identified:

  1. Improve livestock sector infrastructure
  2. Improve incentives for market participation and productivity.
  3. Link participation information to reform assessments.
  4. Support citizen and civil society participation.
