Linking agricultural adaptation strategies and food security: evidence from West Africa

Abstract

Poster profiling collaborative research by the ILRI, CGIAR and other partners, into food security as related to agricultural adaptive strategies in West Africa. The region exhibits low adaptive capacity and high exposure to natural and anthropogenic threats. The study focused on three main aims: Defining food secure and food insecure household profiles; assessing the current levels of adoption of adaptation strategies at the household level and identify the drivers of adoption; and assessing the impact of adaptation strategies on household level food security and land productivity. Results and conclusions focus on possible future mitigation and agricultural development strategies for the region, in order to boost resilience and adaptive capacities to environmental threats.
