Abstract
This document represents the final report of project R6787, \"Learning from self-initiated community forest management groups in Orissa\", which aimed to develop an improved understanding of common property issues and tenure rights and to incorporate this into land use management and planning strategies. The report describes project activities and outputs, including an assessment of the conditions under which spontaneous forest management initiatives occur and the factors affecting their sustainability and effectiveness, and the development of a framework for creating partnerships between communities and the state.
