Abstract

This paper attempts to understand and analyse women's involvement in the Joint Forest Management programme [requiring forests to be protected and managed through partnerships between Forest Departments (FDs) and local people] together with the impacts of their participation and the factors inhibiting and/or encouraging it. The paper is based primarily on a review of existing secondary literature and a visit to the village of Mendha (Lekha), Maharashtra state.
