Isozyme variation in Calliandra calothyrsus: its implications for species delimitation and conservation

Abstract

Patterns of genetic diversity within and among populations of Calliandra calothyrsus, an important multipurpose tree species were examined. Isozyme electrophoresis of 23 loci across 17 populations indicated that the majority of genetic diversity was partitioned between populations and that within-population heterozygosity was low. The results are discussed in relation to species delimitation and conservation.
