Investigation of livelihood strategies and resource use patterns in floodplain production systems based on rice and fish in Bangladesh. Final Technical Report for project R6756.

Abstract

This document represents the final report of NRSP project R6756, \"Investigation of livelihood strategies and resource use patterns in floodplain production systems based on rice and fish in Bangladesh\", which aimed to understand the interrelationships between competing commodity production systems on floodplains and to incorporate this knowledge into system management strategies. The report describes the activities undertaken by the project, including field-based natural resources research, computer-based data interpretation, indigenous knowledge investigation and action research. An integrated bio-physical and socio-economic modelling framework for floodplains was developed and validated, leading to the formulation of recommendations for better resource use.
