Institutional Approaches to the Delivery of Business Development Services. A review of recent literature

Abstract

This paper reviews the international experience of institutional approaches to the delivery of BDS, by drawing on 20 country studies from Asia, Africa, Latin America and Western and Eastern Europe. It aims at highlighting the main strengths and weaknesses of each of these models, and at identifying some general guidelines that could be useful for BDS providers elsewhere. The paper is organised as follows: section 2 presents the emerging new paradigm in BDS philosophy; section 3 analyses three different approaches: the government-driven model, the integrative approach, and the independent perspective, while section 4 provides some concluding remarks.
