Information Communication Technologies and Governance: The Gyandoot Experiment in Dhar District of Madhya Pradesh, India

Abstract

The Gyandoot project was initiated in January 2000 in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, as an e-commerce and e-governance activity, with the objective of providing useful information to people in rural areas, and also to act as an interface between the district government and ordinary people. The objective of this study was to determine the extent of impact the service has had on the rural areas, in order to study the effects of such an initiative on rural lifestyle in general and to determine the possibility of replication in other parts of the state and country.
