Improvement of soil fertility management practices in rainwater harvesting systems. Final Technical Report for project R8115.

Abstract

This document represents the final report of project R8115, 'Improvement of soil fertility management practices in rainwater harvesting systems'. The report describes project activities and outputs, most notably the development and promotion of integrated soil fertility management strategies for different categories of farmers.

The project assessed the fertility status of soils using local indicators of soil fertility (LISF), developed soil fertility management options to address the identified problems, and strengthened capacity and use of suitable mechanisms for transacting information on integrated nutrient management. The implementation was carried out using participatory processes to tap and incorporate indigenous knowledge and expertise in soil fertility management of farmers and extension staff.
