Implementing Politically Feasible Pro-poor Livestock Policies in Senegal

Abstract

This policy briefing is based on Working Paper No. 8.

About one-third of households in Senegal rely on livestock for at least part of their livelihood. The livestock sector is underfunded and not given enough state attention. Poor producers are poorly organised and therefore do not participate effectively in policy formulation. The process of policy formulation in Senegal is summarised and pro-poor policy strategies are outlined for the meat, dairy and poultry sectors.
