This comprehensive literature review focuses on the teaching and learning of science and mathematics in South Africa, Pakistan and Rwanda. The literature in all the three countries was reviewed on curriculum change, gender equity and poverty alleviation. The information points to the fact that in all the three countries there was little research that has been done that links the school curriculum change in mathematics and science to poverty alleviation. Research especially in Pakistan and South Africa has been carried out that addresses the issues of gender in mathematics and science.
