Abstract

Calcrete - a pedogenic material that commonly occurs in arid and semi-arid regions of Southern Africa – is one of the locally available materials for road building found in Inhambane Province, Mozambique. This report introduces a project aiming to provide guidance on the location of calcrete deposits as well as on their classification as road building materials and appropriate technical specifications for their use in road construction. The report gives details of the Inception Phase of the project and the preparatory work undertaken, and outlines the project together with planned activities and an approximate schedule of activities.
