This overview is a summary of the UNRISD Gender Report. It covers: the persistence of gender inequalities; the disabling policy environment; bringing gender back in; the current policy agenda; forging links between economic policy and gender equality; macroeconomics, well-being and gender equality (liberalisation, labour markets and public spending); women, work and social policy (rural areas, labour migration); women in politics and public life; and armed conflict and the search for peace. This paper was presented at 'Conflict Prevention and Peaceful Development: Policies to Reduce Inequality and Exclusion', a CRISE policy conference held on July 9-10, 2007 at Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford.
