Fresh Insights Number 11. Trade, Development and Poverty: The Role of Air Freighted Horticultural Products.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the extent to which trade via air freight offers an important catalyst for sustainable economic development and poverty reduction in poor countries. The paper begins by summarising the salient literature on the impact of trade on growth and poverty, highlighting in the process the mechanisms by which trade is thought to impact on development and growth. It then goes on to discuss the drivers of trade and distance between trading partners before focussing upon the importance of transport and time costs in determining trade links and flows.
