Abstract
The purpose of this study was to improve understanding of the migrations of fish into flood control, drainage and irrigation schemes through sluice gates, and to identify important hydrological and operational factors affecting passage success that, when combined with improved knowledge and understanding of the strategies, institutions and the decision-making arrangements for managing water resources on the floodplain, particularly from an agricultural perspective could be used to develop protocols or guidelines for operating sluice gates to improve floodplain dependent livelihoods.
