Final Report Desakota, Part II A. Reinterpreting the Urban-Rural Continuum.
Abstract
This paper provides conceptual foundations for understanding the role ecosystem services play in the livelihoods of the poor in regions undergoing rapid change. In particular, it describes the desakota concept, which refers to closely interlinked rural/urban livelihoods, communication, transport and economic systems, and examines this in relation to ecosystems and ecosystem services.
