Abstract

This presentation describes experimental laboratory-scale work on the use of the fluorocarbon HFC-134a (1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane) for extraction of artemisinin from Artemisia annua or purification of hexane extracts, including its advantages over other extractants and ways of overcoming problems. It is proposed to investigate the commercial-scale use of this technology.
