ELLA Multimedia: Video: An Overview of Human Rights in Latin America

ELLA is the Evidence and Lessons from Latin America programme

Abstract

Despite the complex political and economic context facing the region, Latin American countries have undeniably advanced in adopting innovative mechanisms to ensure the effective realisation of human rights, such as constitutional acknowledgement, protection of vulnerable groups and reparation for past crimes. However, Latin American countries are still facing many challenges in terms of effectively addressing human rights. In this 10.32 min video, Javier Hernández, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Mexico, along with Miguel Moguel, Claudia López and Mariana Mora, researchers in Fundar’s department of Human Rights and Citizen Security, explain the current situation of human rights in the region, as well as some of the challenges, innovative approaches and lessons learned coming out of the region.
