EKW Water management action plan and preliminary development activities.

Abstract

This report provides a summary of outcomes from a process of extended interaction with stakeholders associated with water management in the East Kolkata Wetlands. The participatory approach adopted for this work ensured that rice, vegetable and fish farmers, together with other community members, were given the opportunity to identify the most pressing constraints concerning water management in the wetlands, propose appropriate solutions, develop and agree upon a plan of action and embark upon the process of implementing preliminary development activities that address some of the most pressing and widely held problems. The objectives of this work, approach adopted and resulting conclusions and recommendations received broadbased support from the stakeholders that participated in the process.
