Discussion Paper 32. Teacher Education for Transformation: the case of the University of the Western Cape, South Africa.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the curriculum of the HDE (Higher Diploma in Education) programme in South Africa, including the attitudes of the lecturers, student experiences, resources, the nature of teaching practice in the programme, and the cost of the programme. The paper attempts to analyse the extent to which this programme meets its objectives of producing future teachers who will be able to face up to the demands of a rapidly changing South African.
