Data collection: designing and implementing systems for co-managed fisheries. A policy brief on designing sustainable data collection systems.

Abstract

The aim of this brief is to explain why data collection is important for management; highlight the challenges faced by those involved in designing and implementing data collection systems or programmes; and describe how these challenges are addressed in a new set of guidelines published by FAO for designing data collection and sharing systems for co-managed fisheries. It also describes the experiences of, and lessons learnt by, fisheries management institutions working in South and South East Asia to design and implement data collection systems.
