Abstract

This factsheet provides a brief introduction to the subject of congenital syphilis, lists the 4 aspects of the strategy that the World Health Organization recommends for its prevention, discusses briefly why it is not being successfully prevented, and identifies 4 areas for action: providing leadership to raise the profile of the issue, framing it as an issue of human rights, integrating health services, government departments and policy, and being guided by evidence.
