China Ecosystem Services and Poverty Alleviation Situation Analysis and Research Strategy. Ningxia Case Study.
Abstract
The Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is located at the upper and middle reaches of the Yellow River in the eastern part of northwest China. Made up of 22 counties in 5 municipalities, Ningxia has a population of 6.04 million by the end of 2006, of whom 3.84 million (63.2%) are in the rural area. This case study looks at poverty and ecosystem services in Ningxia in 5 chapters: General situation of ecological environment and economic development in Ningxia; Challenges of Poverty Reduction through Ecological Construction (PREC) in Ningxia; Important measures [for] poverty reduction through ecological construction and the achievements in Ningxia; Requirements for studying poverty reduction through ecological construction; and Ningxia's strategy of poverty reduction through ecological construction.
