Challenges faced by South African health services in implementing the Mental Health Care Act.

Abstract

In this Editorial the authors suggest that South Africa faces three main challenges in provision of mental health care. The first challenge is to systematically address the lack of resources for mental health care, and begin to plan appropriate services for mental health. The second challenge is for health services to develop information systems to monitor mental health services delivered. The third challenge is to improve quality assurance measures for mental health care.
