Case Study: Private off-grid electrification, Bonna, Ethiopia.

Abstract

An electrification project in Bonna, a small town in southern Ethiopia, is outlined. Financing, public-private partnerships, access to electricity, and livelihood effects are summarized. Electricity in Bonna is provided by a diesel generator owned by a private businessman; the community has previously raised funds for electrification, but lacks the expertise to proceed with a community project.
