Can the Private and Public Sectors Collaborate for Effective Management of TB, HIV and Co-infection? A Situational Analysis in Hyderabad City, Andhra Pradesh

Abstract

The objectives of this study, conducted in Musheerabad Tuberculosis Unit, Hyderabad City were:
1. To assess the management practices of private medical practitioners with regard to HIV, TB and co-infection.
2. To identify the felt needs of private sector providers regarding probable interventions with respect to HIV, TB and coinfection management.
3. To assess the feasibility of coordination between the public and private sectors for management of HIV, TB and co-infection.

The study consisted of 2 phases, a rapid assessment survey and a stakeholder analysis. The key findings are presented and discussed.
