Abstract

This briefing first describes the Mental Health and Poverty Project that aims to provide vital evidence on what policies are needed to break the vicious cycle of poverty and mental ill-health in South Africa, and ensure that the poorest communities have access to mental health care. Sections look at: the cycle of mental ill-health and poverty in low- and middle income countries; targeted interventions to break this cycle; and a series of policy recommendations.
