Automating microfinance. Experience in Latin America, Asia and Africa.

Abstract

This document provides a broad overview of innovative banking technologies that are relevant to microfinance initiatives. It is based on a number of case studies in which microfinance institutions around the world have used tecnology to improve their operations. Chapter 1 summarizes the key technologies described in the publication and highlights their advantages and disadvantages. Chapter 2 presents a series of case studies and groups them according to the types of technologies used. Based on the findings of the case studies, chapter 3 suggests best practices to apply when implementing new technologies. The final chapter discusses the future implications of technological change and innovation for microfinance institutions and the industry as a whole.
