Abstract

The overall objective of the R6017 research programme is to develop a low-cost urban traffic and transport database system, which can be used to:

  • monitor trends in travel and traffic patterns and characteristics, and associated performance of traffic network and transport operations, including environmental and safety aspects

  • identify specific traffic and transport problems

  • provide basic data for transport project appraisal and impact evaluation

This report sets out a sepcification for such a database, based on work undertaken in Ghana in association with the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
