Abstract

Notes from a seminar delivered by Professor Frank Ellis and Professor Stefan Dercon on 31 January 2013 at DFID are presented. The seminar discussed whether small-farm agriculture should be regarded as the engine of pro-poor growth in the developing world. Professor Frank Ellis spoke for the potential of small-farm agriculture for growth and poverty reduction, and Professor Stefan Dercon spoke about his problems with the pro small-farm argument and the efficiency of poverty reduction via economic growth.
