A risky business: saving money and improving global health through better demand forecasts

Abstract

This briefing summarises the findings of the Center for Global Development Global Health Forecasting Working Group on the important problem of poor forecasting of demand for drugs and other health care products. It recommends that forecasting should be taken more seriously (and embedded in all efforts to increase access to health care), that a 'global health infomediary' should be established to gather and provide high-quality information in a neutral way, and that contractual arrengements should be designed to share risks and align incentives appropriately. Donors, suppliers, national health programmes and intermediaries all need to help achieve this. See A risky business: saving money and improving global health through better demand forecasts for the full report.
